I’ve been bugged down by flu recently and so I had to rest for awhile and just sleep the night off than usual. But I am back and now it’s the first of August. Wow, time flies really!
Now it’s Friday. But before I close my week and take it easy the rest of the weekend, let me share with you all a few things that show how life with arthritis can be lived with some better quality, if we make some adjustments.

Countless time here, I have mentioned the importance of exercise in managing arthritis. While exercise (as shown by various studies) can relieve the pain, stiffness and swelling in joints caused by arthritis, we do not want an exercise that will strain the arthritis patient.
If you dig into my archives, the top 2 exercise for arthritis that will come out are:

May isn’t just Spring and therefore a month of flowers, but it is also the Arthritis Awareness Month in the United States of America (USA).
According to The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 1 in 5 Americans suffer from arthritis pain. It is projected that by the year 2030, 67 million people in the U.S. will live with arthritis, up from current estimates of 46 million.

After months of being a lot better (read: less attack of osteoarthritis symptoms), the last three days found me on square one. Knees and thighs stiff again, trouble standing up again after a bit of inactivity (i.e. sitting down in front of my PC). This time was even worse because both my knees were swollen. I never had those before.
So I had to reflect on what I have been doing wrong. Alright, I do not have an exercise regime. Only leisurely walking around the house every now and then, if you can call that exercise.
Just to stretch my legs and lessen the stiffness.

Exercise, in arthritis patients, is rather tricky. It is all about finding the right kind (and frequency ) of exercise that will not be extraneous to the patient suffering from arthritis.
Exercise is something I’ve never done in the past, something that I still haven’t succumbed to until after my osteoarthritis diagnosis. I’ve always been lazy I guess, especially these days that I more posted here in front of my PC than anywhere else. At least when I had an 8-5 job, i used to get up and walk.

…if you have osteoarthritis!!
Especially if you cannot go outside because it has been raining day and night this weekend. Believe it or not, it has been raining cats and dogs out here for the last 3-4-5 days now. I cannot really remember how long because it now feels like forever.
I hate it like this because I often walk around the (our) house, from the back yard to the front, and back again and again, as long as my legs wouldn’t hurt yet. Sometimes in the morning or in the afternoon. I love stretching my legs sometimes, more on weekends because I really need a good break from online and computer stuff (that I do sitting down) and more so because I really need the exercise.
