I found a very interesting report today about the women who breastfed for more than a year reduce their risk of getting rheumatoid arthritis.
Such were the findings of a Swedish study, further saying that women who have kids but did not breast \fed have no protection against rheumatoid arthritis. More →

Do you suffer from osteoarthritis? Then how sold are you to the idea of using a cane. You know…cane…man’s third foot in old age!
Osteoarthritis is a common joint joint disease and is incurable. It is just managed by some medications, proper diet, therapy, some alternative treatments and non-straining exercises.
One source of stress on this vulnerable joint compartment is the knee adduction moment, an indication of weight placement while walking. A 20 percent increase in the peak knee adduction moment is associated with a 6-fold or greater increase in the risk of knee OA progression over 6 years.

As revealed by a new government report, more than half of diabetic American adult has arthritis too. This is the case especially in older adults (65 years old and above) who have diabetes.
In diabetes, lifestyle changes such as a healthy diet and exercise regimen is critical in the management of diabetes. But then in these older adults, they are not able to exercise because they have arthritis too.

In fact, arthritis is now being called the “coming epidemic”.

We’ve always been told to lessen our exposure to the sun in order to lower our risk of developing skin cancer.
However, according to The Arthritic Association, avoiding the sun totally can lead to arthritis.
That makes sense became sunshine is necessary for the body to produce Vitamin D. Vitamin D is then necessary for the absorption of calcium for general bone health.

Chemists in China have identified substances in some of their ant species that may be able to fight against arthritis and other diseases (i.e. hepatitis, etc).
Apparently in China, ants has been used for centuries as a healthy ingredient in food or drink, against various conditions such as arthritis and hepatitis.
In the new study, Zhi-Hong Jiang and colleagues analyzed extracts from a particular species of Chinese medicinal ant (Polyrhacis lamellidens) commonly used in folk medicine.

In Northern Ireland, a major clinical trial will focus on children suffering from arthritis — not only for the betterment of its treatment but also to reduce brittle bones (osteopenia) in this children as a result of steroid treatments.
The said clinical trial - funded by the Arthritis Research Campaign and is being lead by Consultant Rheumatologist Dr Madeleine Rooney - aims to recruit about 40 local youngsters aged between four and 18 and is being conducted at the Belfast’s Musgrave Park Hospital. More →

Exercise, in arthritis patients, is rather tricky. It is all about finding the right kind (and frequency ) of exercise that will not be extraneous to the patient suffering from arthritis.
Exercise is something I’ve never done in the past, something that I still haven’t succumbed to until after my osteoarthritis diagnosis. I’ve always been lazy I guess, especially these days that I more posted here in front of my PC than anywhere else. At least when I had an 8-5 job, i used to get up and walk.
